News Editor – Auto

The job involves tracking industry trends closely and in-depth, developing daily story lists for writers, and rewriting stories. We are looking for:

Subject knowledge: In-depth knowledge of automobiles in terms of industry trends, product launches, company news and technology developments, both nationally and internationally. The candidate should have the ability to scan thousands of news feeds daily and identify story ideas to assign to writers. S/he should have insight into what information is useful and meaningful in a particular story, and be able to review and improve stories written by team members.

Internet skills: The candidate must be a "digital native" who writes and comments on auto websites and blogs, participates actively on social media sites such as Digg and Twitter, and is well versed in SEO principles. S/he should also be able to leverage research tools such as RSS feeds and Google Reader effectively.

Editorial skills: Candidates must possess a very good understanding of how content is written and presented online. We are looking people with the ability to prepare tight, conversational, accurate copy for publishing while meeting tough deadlines. The job will involve speed rewriting.
